Why Gissar?

Why Gissar?

Hey, my Dear Friend!

I'm Oybek, founder of Gissar shop.

I was born in Samarkand. A city shaped by movement, by trade, by hands that made things to last. The Silk Road passed through it, carrying materials, techniques, and stories. Leather was part of that life for centuries. It was not a decoration. It was something people relied on.

Growing up there, you don’t think about heritage as something distant. It is simply around you. In textures, in markets, in the way objects age and stay with people.

Gissar is a mountain region not far from where I grew up. Quiet, open, and strong in its presence. I remember the feeling of space there. Clean air, raw landscape, nothing excessive. The name stayed with me.

When I started Gissar, I wanted to keep that same feeling.
Simple forms. Honest materials. No extra noise.

We focus on making pieces that stay with you for a long time. Things that soften, change, and become part of your daily life. Something you don’t replace, but pass on.

That idea feels natural to me.
